Nothing between usWe sat together- but not together. It was a long ride back home in a small car. We sat, cramped, in the back. The roof of the car stained brown and carried the stench of nicotine. The fake leather broke from years of abuse. Dust and sand frosted the windows. Mildew bordered the windows inside. Poor visibility gave a few certainties of the outside world; blurry clouds and streaking stars. Our legs tucked almost against our chests. Remnants of meals, plastic bags and other waste nestled beneath our feet. It matted the floor as trash carpet- pop art of the youth who owned vehicles. Bags and luggage entombed us. They were bulky and misshapeNothing between us

Oh godI felt the shame before the swing of those hips- oh god. Your curves are thick and lush to your rocking steps.Oh god
I drowned in your ocean blue eyes every night. Every night you stood on that stage. Oh god- no one sings the blues like you anymore. You cried with eyes shut and a soul uncovered. Your fingers twirled me like the cord on your mic, and took me to your mouth. You sang chewing my heart and spitting it out, but I still kept coming. Every night, you sang to remind me of how I broke your heart.
